Nebraska volleyball’s trip to Michigan will bring Harper Murray and Gabby DiVita back to the community where their volleyball journeys began.

Both Huskers played for Legacy Volleyball Club, along with teammate Campbell Flynn. Murray is from Ann Arbor, while DiVita grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

The No. 1 Huskers play at Michigan on Friday, Oct. 30, then travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State on Saturday.

For Murray, the return is personal. She is looking forward to seeing friends and family and revisiting a place she said remains special to her.

“I love the people there. I love the area,” Murray said. “I’m so grateful I grew up there. … My friends are from there. My family’s there. It’s going to be a fun day.”

The trip also gives Murray a chance to give back to the club that helped her develop. She has returned to Legacy to host a volleyball camp, welcoming girls with different levels of experience.

“Legacy is a great environment, and I wouldn’t be here without Legacy,” Murray said. “The fact that I can go back to the club and bring a bunch of girls together to learn volleyball” means a lot to her.

DiVita said the young players who attend the Huskers’ matches will get to see former Legacy teammates competing at Nebraska.

“I think it’s really exciting for all of them, especially seeing not just Harper here now, but me and Campbell too,” DiVita said. “I just think it inspires them to keep dreaming big.”

Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly said the turnout from Legacy is expected to be significant, with about 1,000 people connected to the club planning to attend the Michigan match. For young players, she said, seeing athletes from their hometowns succeed at Nebraska can expand what they imagine for themselves.

“Being able to go somewhere and have that kind of a turnout when you have players from that hometown, I think just shows them that they can do it too,” Busboom Kelly said.

The return gives Murray and DiVita a chance to reconnect with their roots while representing the program they chose—and to show younger players that a path from Legacy to Nebraska is possible.
