Nineteen matches into their seasons, Nebraska’s 2025 and 2026 volleyball teams had the same record: 19-0. Both also reached unanimous No. 1 status in the AVCA Top 25 poll.

The teams have taken different paths to that perfect start. The 2025 Huskers averaged 47.4 kills per match and hit .333. Nebraska’s 2026 team is averaging 45.1 kills and hitting .326 — numbers that remain among the nation’s best. The current team’s hitting percentage is tied for first nationally with Pitt.

The biggest difference has come from the service line. Nebraska is averaging 6.1 aces per match in 2026, up from 4.1 in 2025. The team has recorded 116 aces through 19 matches, compared with 76 in the same stretch last season.

More aggressive serving has also led to more errors. The Huskers average 7.1 service errors per match, up from 6.5 a year ago. Coach Dani Busboom Kelly has encouraged the team to keep attacking from the line. Aces can take pressure off the offense, while tough serves can force opponents out of system.

Nebraska has also been strong at the net. The 2026 team is averaging 9.6 blocks per match, slightly above the 2025 team’s 9.1. Opponents are hitting .104 against the Huskers this season, the nation’s best mark after Nebraska led the country in the category in 2025.

The 2025 team averaged more digs, 44.4 per match to 41.4. But the 2026 Huskers have reduced reception errors to 2.4 per match, down from 3.7. More aces and blocks can end rallies sooner, while fewer reception errors help Nebraska extend them when opponents get the ball across.

Through 19 matches, the records are identical. The 2025 team held a slight edge in hitting and digs; the 2026 team has added pressure at the service line and continued to lead with its defense at the net.
