Braden Frager burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman last season. Now, Nebraska hopes his biggest improvement comes on the other end of the floor.

After averaging 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds while helping lead the Huskers to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, Frager enters the 2026-27 season looking to become a more complete player.

The former Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year earned Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year honors and was named to the conference's All-Freshman Team last season, but the 6-foot-7 forward said his offseason focus has centered on defense.

"I think for me it's just staying locked in on the defensive end," Frager said. "I feel like a lot of times I'm so worried about my offense. Offense is always going to come to me. I just have to stay locked in on that end."

Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said that commitment has already been evident throughout offseason workouts.

"Braden has definitely grown in that area on the defensive end," Hoiberg said. "He's rebounding the ball well right now. He's just got that athleticism and explosiveness that we don't have a lot of on this roster. We're going to need him."

Frager's development comes at an important time for Nebraska, which must replace several key defensive contributors from last season's Sweet 16 team.

Hoiberg believes the Lincoln Southwest graduate has the tools to help fill that void.

For Frager, becoming a better defender isn't about talent. It's about consistency and discipline.

"I feel like offensively my talents can take me places," Frager said. "But I can even go further with my defensive talent."

Frager has long spoken about his goal of playing professionally. Before he can reach the next level, however, he believes the next step begins with becoming a more complete player for the Huskers.

If his defensive growth continues, Nebraska could have one of the Big Ten's most versatile forwards leading the way this winter.
