Sudan has been ravaged by conflict. And #Chad has become the epicenter of a refugee crisis.

Since April 2023, the beginning of the conflict in #Sudan, 10.5 million people have been displaced internally. This is the largest number of displaced people in the world. Over 2 million have fled into neighbouring countries including close to 800 000 into Chad. Moreover, hundreds of refugees are crossing every day into Chad, mainly from Darfur.

The arrival of refugees from Sudan into Chad has been hard on the fragile health system. These refugees, comprising mostly of women and children, are settled in formal and informal camps.

Many women and young girls have suffered sexual violence. Children are arriving malnourished and facing respiratory infections, acute watery diarrhea, #dengue, #measles and other epidemics.

Every week a staggering 1500 to 2000 cases of severe acute #malnutrition are reported. There’s a growing risk of famine in Sudan and the situation is expected to worsen.

WHO teams visited Adré this week. It is here that the majority of the Sudanese refugees arrive.

The health and humanitarian situation is dire. It needs our urgent attention and action.
