The Yanomami indigenous people in #Brazil 🇧🇷 face major health challenges, including malnutrition, acute respiratory infections, diarrhoea, malaria and tungiasis.

Mercury and other heavy metals have contaminated the rivers, soil, and animals in the region. This has directly affected the diet of the indigenous people. Also, reaching the Yanomamis is difficult because the area has been damaged by deforestation and illegal mining over the years. This has made it even harder to get there.

The Pan American Health Organization (OPSPAHO) has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health and other partners to improve the health of the #Yanomami people by:

✔️ Supporting emergency vaccination efforts
✔️ Providing training on malnutrition screening and assessment
✔️ Developing materials for healthcare professionals
✔️ Funding medical supplies
✔️ Increasing access to testing and treatment of malaria
and more. #HealthForAll
