Why does a stack of magnets walk down a whiteboard… and then stop right at a marker line? 👀🧲

It’s a mini physics lesson in motion, friction, and magnetic fields:

As the magnets twist and “wiggle,” they shift their center of mass just enough to overcome static friction on the vertical board. Each tiny rotation lets gravity pull them a bit lower—almost like a mechanical inchworm.

But the surprise ending?
When they reach the dry-erase marker line, the surface suddenly gets more slippery. Marker ink is less textured than the board’s surface, so friction drops. The magnets lose the grip they rely on for their walking gait… and stall.

A moving magnet train brought to a halt by surface chemistry. 🧪✨

If you try this, use weak to medium-strength magnets and a tilted whiteboard—it exaggerates the effect beautifully.
