Between 1978 and 2016, Cunningham roamed the streets of New York on his bicycle recording eye-catching people from every walk of life (including the highest levels of society) who expressed themselves through STYLE. He featured them in his must-read Sunday column at the NYTimes. But that’s just ONE part of this man’s long and complex life. Style-obsessed renegade. Fashion- and society-obsessed youngster. 1960s hat designer. Social documentarian. And secret philanthropist, God love him. Bill’s story is told in the new (and deeply touching) documentary, “The Times of Bill Cunningham,” directed by first-time feature documentary filmmaker, Mark.Bozek, a film which constantly reveals new layers of a man you thought you knew, and throws light on a unique part of American style history. Pictured, a delightful illustration of (and loving tribute to) Bill by his close friend, Cuban-born artist (and husband of the late and beloved New York fashion designer Isabel Toledo) Ruben Toledo (Toledox2) created for the film’s one-sheet.
