On Oct. 28, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi joined U.S. President Donald Trump aboard the USS George Washington to address American military personnel. The two leaders spent the day getting acquainted, as Trump visits Japan to reaffirm the alliance.

Trump said he and Takaichi have become good friends. As he has done several times since Takaichi assumed office, he praised her for becoming Japan's first female prime minister.

Takaichi called the USS George Washington a symbol of peace and protection, highlighting close bilateral security ties.

"Now, as the two commanders-in-chief of Japan and the United States stand together once again, I have renewed my determination to carry forward that resolve and to make the Indo-Pacific free and open, so that it will serve as the foundation of peace and prosperity for the entire region," she said.
