One thing you learn very quickly on the PCT is how to find cover quickly and how fast a plan can quickly go out the window. With talks of a snowstorm coming in with snowfall amounts of 6-12 inches we spent nearly an hour at the bottom of Mount Whitney discussing our options. We didn't have enough food to take an on trail zero, but at the same time couldn't exactly walk in a snowstorm. We finally came to an agreement that we'd wake up very early and try and get to the next campground that was 10 miles away before the snow began to fall.
Later that night, an unexpected thunderstorm took over our camp at 2am. Lightning crashing all around, with immediate claps of thunder. Fearful, I forced myself asleep and hoped I woke up the next morning.
Morning came, skies were clear as could be, no clouds in site, and the sun shining above. We almost wondered if last nights storm was the supposed snowstorm and that the system arrived early. So, we packed our gear and quickly started making our way towards the next camp. It didn't take but 6 miles into our hike for that to change. After crossing a river and as I was putting my shoes back on, I glanced up and noticed clouds rolling in, and the mountains in front of us began to disappear. It was at this point we had to speed walk. Moving at 3+ mph through the Sierras. Which is an extremely difficult task to do. I snapped this image as we finally crested our peak we had been climbing up and made our way to camp right before snow started falling. But not before snapping this image of the incredible mountain range in front of us.
