⁠Working in the MICU I saw a lot of respiratory failure. Pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis...patients struggling to maintain oxygenation was the "norm". As I'm sure it is in many of your ICUs. ⁠

In the OR, the ventilator is our best friend. Well, we have many, but for the educational purposes of this post today it's our #1 ride or die (literally? ha). ⁠

But seriously, getting to understand your ventilator, parameters, alarm causes and how to troubleshoot is one of the best things you can do as a practitioner. Troubleshooting a decreasing O2 sat  is something I do regularly! ⁠
