I am here in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is rated as top polluter for “plastic” in the ocean; however, if you walk around the city, you hardly find any PET bottle in the streets. You may see plastic bags, plastic glasses, straws, etc. left as litter but almost no PET bottles. Why? Because PET is already a resource and waste pickers collect and sell it. We are currently trying to mobilize other actors locally in order to make this informal picking process a more stable one, stay tuned.
