Welcome to episode 30 of #humanfriday, where we are at Watchtime Düsseldorf, Germany’s largest watch show, which opens today and runs until October 31. Here we meet gemmologist Nairui Huang, manager of Juwelier Pletzsch in Düsseldorf.

Nairui Huang has been in the watch industry for just over a decade, and she loves the connection between watches and jewellery.

Tell us why visiting this watch show is a great weekend thing for watch lovers to do!
“More than 30 brands are present, and you can see and touch a lot of new watches – some of which are not yet in stores. So it is a great opportunity if you want to see and touch a lot of watches.”

Juwelier Pletzsch is exhibiting at Watchtime Düsseldorf with four brands: Why did you choose Chronoswiss among the 25 brands you have in the boutique?
“Chronoswiss is special. Not only was it the first brand that made a regulator in a wristwatch collection, I also really appreciate the traditional guilloché made by hand. And I really like the development in the last few years.”

What do you mean?
“Now the watches have a unique design. The technical standard is high, and they are simply beautiful. Look for instance at the Open Gear ReSec Paraiba: When you turn it around the dial changes in the colours that you normally see in the gemstone thanks to the CVD coating on the guilloché pattern. The Pink Panther is also really special.”

How would you describe a Chronoswiss client?
“Individuals that want something special. Several of our clients also appreciate that it is possible to personalise a timepiece – few companies offer that.”

Juwelier Pletzsch has been around in Frankfurt since 1897. How long has the Düsseldorf boutique been open?
We opened our Düsseldorf boutique in 2013, and we have both high-end watches and our own diamond atelier with our own designs.

What do you love about watches?
I admire the art of mechanical watchmaking: the technology, the beauty, the complications. The ability of putting hundreds of parts together and it works – watches are simply astonishing!
