Welcome to episode 29 of #humanfriday, where we meet Walter Fuchser, who recently bought his ninth Chronoswiss timepiece.

Walter Fuchser is a mechanical engineer whose company creates automation processes and tools for some of the largest players in the watch industry – but whenever he is in Lucerne, he likes to drop in to the small, independent Chronoswiss atelier. 

“I love the hundred-year-old guilloché machine! And I also know the drilling machine, since it comes from the company where I was an apprentice once upon a time,” said Walter Fuchser, just before he visited the vintage automobile exhibition Swiss Classic World in Lucerne. 

What is it that you like about Chronoswiss? 
“Today everybody has a Rolex, but that’s not me. I want something special like Chronoswiss. I like to see how they produce the dials, get to know the history behind the timepiece – and the people. Now I know almost everybody in Chronoswiss, I have sort of become part of the family – and this makes it even more special. And Beat always calls me when there are some special pieces that he knows that I would like. Or I call him to ask what he has.”

What is your favourite Chronoswiss timepiece?
“I have eight … no, nine timepieces from Chronoswiss, and my favourite is the Wristmaster, the big one where you have two watches on a wide leather strap. You can use the two watches to measure driving time, but above all it is a conversation starter with a high wow factor. So yes, this is my favourite today, but tomorrow it could be another one. I also like the blue regulator day and night – I love blue watches.”

You also like unusual clothing, like lederhosen.
“Yes, I love them. And as I am into old-timers, they are perfect. Old clothes for the old cars. I got them from Baden where they make them, and for three years they have been my favourite piece of clothing to wear when I am not working. And they look great together with my big Chronoswiss Wristmaster.” #chronoswiss #modernmechanical #classic #watchmaking
