Welcome to episode 26 of #humanfriday, where we meet Hans-Dieter and Karin Brand, hdb_film_color and kbrand06 whose recent visit to the Chronoswiss atelier in Lucerne ended with buying an Open Gear Pink Panther.

“What is fantastic with a small brand like Chronoswiss is that you get to know the people behind the watches, you know who makes what,” says Wolfsburg-based architect and hobby photographer Hans-Dieter Brand, who shot the stunning imagery of his wife Karin in this post. The couple has visited Lucerne for more than a decade, and the day before Karin’s birthday the couple visited the Chronoswiss atelier.
“When we saw the Pink Panther, we became totally enthusiastic. It is such a fantastic colour,” says Hans-Dieter about what spontaneously ended up being the perfect birthday gift.
“What is really surprising about the timepiece is how well this pink colour fits with other colours. You can really combine it with so much,” says Karin, who has worn it every day since she received it.

The couple prefers watches from independent brands. “It is something completely different to wear watches from small brands with limited series, and I think more and more people appreciate something not created in big masses. With a small brand you get excited and start following them to see future development and surprises.”

Karin was also invited to test the century-old guilloché machine. “To make it spin with one hand and press the engraving tool with the other while focusing on the dial is an amazing experience. It really makes you appreciate the artisanal craft that goes into each dial,” she says.

The couple would recommend anyone visit Lucerne – and not only because of the watches. “It is such a beautiful city, and the surrounding landscape is just a dream,” says Karin. Hans-Dieter adds: “Lucerne is a great cultural destination. We have, for instance, seen great concerts in the KKL – the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre – with architecture by Jean Nouvel. And my secret Lucerne tip is the badi (open-air swimming area) at Seebad Lucerne – it is fantastic to go swimming surrounded by these gorgeous mountains.”
