Welcome to episode 23 of #humanfriday, where the famous watch and tennis journalist and Chronoswiss collector Miguel Seabra through this personal account recounts his quest for a holy grail.

A couple is always better than one, right?

My first Chronoswiss was the Klassik Chronograph, back in 1997 or 1998. At the time, we were very far from the neo-retro frenzy of these past 10 years — and, in face of the modernity that characterized most collections back then in the 90s, Chronoswiss timepieces were definitely a classy throwback to a glorious past of mechanical watchmaking. It can even be said that Chronoswiss anticipated, more than twenty years before, the new vintage wave that has been dominating the industry lately. One model back then really stood out for me because it didn't include the usual Chronoswiss features (knurled bezel, onion crown, lugs with screwed bars) and was clearly inspired be the great chronographs of the 1940s and ‘50s: The Chronoswiss Klassik. Manufactured with tools and machines from the 1950s, it sits beautifully on any wrist, thanks to its 37mm in diameter, thin bezel and magnificent teardrop lugs.

It was love at first sight and soon I had it on my wrist, always eliciting praise from everyone around me. Afterwards I got a few more Chronoswiss timepieces: an Opus Chronograph, a Timemaster Professional and a Pacific Chronograph — but I've always fancied the grail: the Klassik Chronograph boasting a copper dial. So much that a few years ago I started looking for one in the pre-owned market... without success. So, I opted for Plan B: get that elusive copper dial separately and then another Klassik Chronograph (preferably on a silver dial like mine because the hands would be the same). Fortunately, I was able to buy at the Chronoswiss premises in Lucerne what I think was the very last copper dial in existence and then I went for the watch. In the end, it was just a matter of swapping dials. So, now I own two fabulous Klassik Chronograph brothers! After all, a couple is always better than one.
