Welcome to episode 21 of #humanfriday, where we meet Suzana Graorac, with the somewhat mysterious job description of “back office.” What hides behind the title of one of the crucial wheels that keep Chronoswiss ticking?

The cheerful and nimble-handed Suzana Graorac arrived at Chronoswiss in 1995, and she has remained here ever since. In the last few years her foundational knowledge about the brand has been applied to several new fields.

So what happens in the back office of Chronoswiss?

“A lot! (laughs) For me, personally, more and more. During my first 20 years here I was mainly doing assembly of the bands for the Chronoswiss patented Autobloc system. Come 2015, Mr Ebstein asked me if I wanted to learn new tasks. Thus my job description expanded. Now I also do administrative work; ship watches and bands to our clients; make sure watches get in and out of service . . . It varies a lot.”

How was this change for you?

“I am always up for learning something new, and I love the current mix of practical work with my hands and being on the computer. So I really appreciate that Oliver Ebstein gave me the chance to do all these different things.”

You are probably the one human being on the whole planet with most experience of the Chronoswiss patented Autobloc system. What makes it unique?

“It is an added value that provides an extremely secure fixture for the band. We have a special tool for the Autobloc screws. Without this tool you could scratch the screws or the lugs. The advantage of the Autobloc solution compared with other bracelets is its ingenious construction where screws from either side lock into a uniting steel bar, from which they do not come undone.”

Describe being at an independent company?

“I like the people, the atmosphere in the team. We all get along well – this is also important. That’s why I am still here after all these years: we are like a family. And I love both the current watches and the vintage Timemaster collection.
