Welcome to episode 11 of  #humanfriday. Today we meet Gerry de Bell gerrydebell from Loon op Zand in the Netherlands – the lucky winner of a ReSec Classic watch in the Chronoswiss Holiday Season raffle.

“I could not believe it when I received the email and then the phone call from Lucerne saying that I was a winner of this wonderful watch!” When I get hold of Mr de Bell over the phone he laughingly tells me he remained sceptic until the package arrived just before Christmas.

Gerry is no stranger to Chronoswiss. A decade ago he was shown an Opus Chronograph, which blew him away.

So, it was a skeletonised Opus Chronograph that triggered your interest in watches?
“Yes when you see the whole movement inside, how everything is moving – this made me curious how a watch is working. I work as an engineer, for somebody interested in mechanics, it was fascinating.”

How did this experience change you?
“I had some digital watches, but since that day I only wear mechanical automatic watches. I did not have the financial means at the time to buy an Opus. But I told the supplier that one day I would love to have a Chronoswiss watch.

Fast forward to 2020. How did you learn about the competition?
“A while ago I came across Chronoswiss on Instagram, and I decided to follow them. In December I saw the raffle and gave my email.”

Which turned out to be good thing.
“Indeed!” (Laughs)

How do you like watch with guilloché dial and 30-second retrograde indicator?
“I love it. And everybody I show it, agree that it is such a nice watch. It is a decent Swiss made watch. It is elegant and classic, but also a bit sporty.”

You have some other watches.
“Yes, this is my forth automatic watch, and I must say it is by far the nicest. The other watches I have are not comparable. Winning the ReSec Classic made me a very happy man.”

Any future plans for more watches?
“No, with the ReSec I feel complete. But when we can travel again I look forward to visit the Chronoswiss atelier in Lucerne.
