“Cisgender” and “cis” are not slurs no matter how much Elon Musk and anti-queer trolls want them to be. Here’s why:

A ‘Slur’ is defined as “an insulting or disparaging remark or innuendo.” “an insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation” 

“Cisgender” is a term used to refer to anyone whose gender identity matched the physical sex they were assigned at birth. According to the Oxford English dictionary the etymology or origin of “cisgender” dates back to the early 90s and the prefixes “cis” and “trans” have scientific roots.  While we use these prefixes to refer to many things (including gender identity) the terms aren’t rooted in political or “liberal” ideology as some wish to believe. 

In Latin the root word “cis” means “on the same side as” while “trans” means “on the other side of” and in chemistry these prefixes are used to name molecules that are made of the same atoms but have a different arrangement. “cis” means two atoms are situated “on the same side” of a molecule. “trans” means two atoms are situated “on the other side of” or across from each other. 

We could go into what this means for the molecular structure of human DNA but we doubt Musk and his trolls want to have an actual scientific discussion. So we’ll just say this, STFU and get the bots off Twitter already, we’re tired of the “make $150,000/month from home” messages.
