A Friday after school, my big boy kept telling me “Tim Joy” & I had no idea what he was trying to tell me, but he refused to take his shoes & hat off. Even got back in the car. He even wrote down “Tim Joy”. Then it hit me 💡[after an hour]! TRADER JOE’S! I Googled a picture of the outside of #TraderJoes & he said “TIM JOY” & started clapping. Mommy said “Say less, baby! We’re going to Tim Joy”. It was a Friday at 5:30pm & I didn’t even care. My baby wanted to do his own haul, so I packed up the baby & the 3 of us headed to Tim Joy! My family will only refer to Trader Joe’s as Tim Joy from now on💜

Having an autistic son is an adventure that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. He is considered nonverbal, but has been making TREMENDOUS strides this academic year. He’s a picky eater, he loves to arrange fruits & vegetables [at two years old, he pointed out “endive” at the grocery store], but won’t eat them YET! But that’s what he loves getting in the store. I knew he was trying to tell me where he wanted to go & I had to remain patient & use any clue he was giving. I’ll never return down a trip to TJ, but the real win here is he remained calm, he waited until Mommy figured it out & followed all directions in the store. Luckily, the store is amazing & knows him, so when he went behind the register to make sure they took care of his haul & grabbing bags, no one batted an eye [Thank you Kate💜]. I say all this to say, the victory wasn’t the trip, but him communicating his wants & doing it consistently without a meltdown. Thank you Big Boy for choosing me to be your mommy. I wouldn’t have it any other way💙.
