I started Tanorria's Table 6 years ago.  The plan was to make it my full-time job in 3-5 years.

I auditioned for MasterChef 9 months later.  I told the Lord (cause I love telling Him what to do) that I was going to LA to win, come back, and change my life.

I quit my Corp job five years ago. I gave myself five years to get this entrepreneurial thing right.  I knew I could get a "big girl job" if things weren't going well after five years.

I contracted a Creative Director 2 years ago.  My business grew by 53%.

Last year, in 2020, I laid in bed with all of the lights turned off for three days, crying because I thought I had failed. I was getting close to that five-year timeline.  This wasn't a result of COVID blues; it was too early into the panorama to call it that.  This dark space was a build-up.  This entrepreneurial ish isn't for everyone.  It's hard.  It's the hardest thing I've ever done.  I got into therapy and was gifted a creative coach for nine months.  My whole mindset shifted.  My entire life shifted.  EVERYTHING shifted.  Since that time, I've changed how I do business and see myself as a businesswoman, how I see myself as a Black businesswoman, and how I meet my business goals.

Just last week, I onboarded my first W2 employee.

If I were still in my corporate career, I would not have received this award today.  If I were still married to the man I was married to, I would not have received this award today.  If it weren't for me taking control of my mental health and shifting my mindset to see,  know, and own my worth, I would not have received this award today.

I've been walking around the house for the last two months yelling; I'm 40 under 40.  I got the plaque this morning.  I still can't believe it, but in the very same breath, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I deserve it.
