Yesterday we were talking about why it's important for hockey players to incorporate a variety of movement patterns not just the usual squats and deadlifts.⁠

By targeting hockey-specific movement patterns off the ice, players will develop the necessary strength, agility, balance and power for on-ice effectiveness. This is what we call functional hockey strength because it translates directly to on-ice performance. ⁠
⁠
Single leg exercises, like the split squat in this video, are a necessary addition to your lower body training.⁠
⁠
It should also include more advanced exercises like plyometrics that train explosive power and are the key to becoming a faster, more powerful skater. ⁠
