NASCAR made history twice on Sunday in downtown Chicago.

The Cup Series hosted a street-course race for the first time in its history, and a first-time driver took the checkered flag in race that took drivers around Grant Park, historic Michigan Avenue and picturesque Lake Shore Drive.

Shane van Gisbergen, an Australian Supercars champion, won in his NASCAR debut on a rainy Sunday, chasing down Justin Haley and Chase Elliott in a memorable finish. 

The 34-year-ol New Zealand native became the first driver in 60 years to win in his very first Cup race.
