📌 The Channels Natural Area Preserve
📍 Abingdon, Virginia

🥾 Hike Details

- 6.5 mile out and back hike
- 1,309 feet in elevation gain 
- rate as moderate 
- uphill, rocky trail leads up to a Hayters Knob Fire Tower and views when you peep over the rocks atop Middle Knob and right before you descend down into the amazing 20 acre slot canyon maze
- the temperature is cooler down in the canyon and it’s just so fun exploring the labyrinth of sandstone boulders and towering rock crevices 

🚗 Plan ahead and go early. There are only 10 parking spaces at the trailhead. You will be towed if you park along the road and not in one of those parking spaces. If the lot is full come back later when a parking space is available.
