Virginia’s Highest Mountains

📍Mt Rogers 5,729 ft (highest point)
📍Whitetop Mountain 5,525 ft
📍Pine Mtn (shown) 5,525 ft
📍Buzzard Rock (shown) 5,095 ft
📍Little Pinnacle 5,089 ft
📍Big Pinnacle 5,068 ft
📍Haw Orchard 5,007 ft

⛺️Both of these backcountry camping locations in this video are along the Appalachian Trail in southwest Virginia.

🎒Both require backpacking to get to.

🚨Camping at above 5,000 feet elevation on an exposed mountain top is not recommended for new campers. Experience is suggested as weather conditions can change dramatically in a moments notice. Winds can be much stronger and temperatures can be much lower.

🚫 Also these areas are wild and are considered dispersed camping. There is no water. You must haul in all you need.

🏕 The ATC recommends tent camping at least 200 feet from the AT or a water source.

🗑 Always practice Leave No Trace Principles while out backcountry camping. If you haul it in, haul all your trash back out with you and dispose of it properly.

⛰ Climb any 5 of these highest points to take on the 5 Over 5K VA Challenge if you’re into peak bagging
