Stat of the day: 50,000 - How many smartphone numbers are on a list investigated by The Washington Post for suspected targeting by Pegasus spyware.

The numbers span more than 50 countries. The most were in Mexico, and a large number were in the UAE and Bahrain, which are reported to be NSO clients. An investigation by the Washington Post and others found that military-grade spyware Pegasus had been used in attempted and successful hacks of 37 smartphones; numbers on the list belonged largely to journalists, activists, and executives.
