CELEBRATING OUR SENIORS

Ashlyn Cooper, L/DS, #COV18Blue

🔹What has playing at Club One meant to you?
“Club One has showed me family does still exist in volleyball even at 17/18. Even when we all have our own big girl responsibilities, we are still looking forward to practice. I think I really would have lost my love for volleyball if I had not ended up at Club One. Club One Coaches have supported me and my journey like they have known me my whole journey even though I have only been here for a season. Thank you for taking me in and making me a part of this big volleyball family.”

🔹What advice would you share with younger players about being a good teammate?
“Being a good teammate does not mean you are the most skilled player on the court. This is something I have struggled with throughout my 7 years of volleyball, and I hope that young athletes can watch older athletes like me and learn from our mistakes and do it over better. Being a good teammate to me, is cheering on your other libero when they’re playing and you’re not put in as libero. This applies to every position. Being a good teammate is having your teammates backs and being for them, not only in a court setting but outside of the gym too. Being a good teammate is staying encouraging even when things aren’t going the way you want or think they should go. And most of all, being a good teammate is taking the losses with your team just as hard as the wins with your team. You will not win them all, but be the teammate someone can go to after a tough loss, be the teammate your team appreciates still after a tough loss. Be the teammate your teammates will remember in a positive way."

🔹What are you looking forward to after high school?
“I’m looking forward to starting this brand new chapter after high school. Although I am nervous to move across the country, I couldn’t be more excited. I’m excited to start a whole new volleyball journey with my college team. I get to start off completely fresh and with everything I have learned, I’m excited to be able to restart and do better.”

Ashlyn will continue her athletic and academic career at Salem College.
