Seinfeld’s got rhythm! jerryseinfeld
.
.
Lately I’ve become interested in the rhythms of standup comedy. Seinfeld is using rhythm effectively here – varying his rate of speech (or “subdivisions”) to keep you engaged and to make the punchline at the end hit especially hard, like a big crash on the downbeat after a fill.
.
.
.
There is definitely a link between comedy and drums…which is why some of the best standups, like James Acaster, Fred Armisen, and wilfredburr are also drummers!
