Can’t help but smile when the groove locks in :)
.
Recording myself playing has improved my groove so much. – here’s a video of me keeping up with @dr.stevegadd. How many other drummers have the guts to play a fill that’s just 2 quarter notes on the snare? (Wait for it)
.
If you like @vulfpeck, check out their predecessor: Stuff! Stuff was the premiere instrumental funk band of the 1970s, featuring legendary musicians like Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee, and Eric Gale.
.
This track is called “Foots” and it actually featured two drummers: Steve Gadd and Chris Parker (who played in the SNL house band for six years!) I’m trying to play both parts at once, hence all the cross-overs to the ride
.
I put some clothes and towels on my drums to get that funky and compressed drum sound of the 1970s. As @googlebully says, the snare should sound like “closing the door of an old Mercedes.” Personally I like to imagine it’s like tossing a baseball right into the perfect spot of your glove.
