The Ummah was a music production collective, composed of members Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and Jay Dee of Slum Village. Occasional members included Raphael Saadiq and D'Angelo. The Ummah provided tracks and remixes for a notable array of hip hop and R&B artists, including Busta Rhymes, Whitney Houston, Keith Murray, The Brand New Heavies, Jon B, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and several others. Jay Dee was a very active member of the collective. The word "ummah" is arabic for "community", "nation", or "brotherhood" "Before there was J Dilla, there was Jay Dee" ~ Rest in Power ~ #JamesDewittYancey
