Did you know that March is Cerebral Palsy awareness month? I haven’t known how to talk about this for the last few months, mostly because of the large petition I went on the last four years to make sure everyone knew that Kinsley didn’t have Cerebral Palsy, when the reality is, she actually does. Her main diagnosis has always been holoprosencephaly, but the issue is that she presents herself like 0% of the kids with holoprosencephaly, and 100% like the kids who have CP. Kinsley’s physical therapist explained to me a few months ago that Cerebral Palsy is caused by abnormal development or damage to parts of the brain that control movement, balance, and posture. He said he’d bet any amount of money that something specifically happened to her ventricles during development, and that’s why Kinsley presents herself the way she does. Ventricles… Do you guys remember how all of this started? Enlarged ventricles in Kinsley’s brain which led us to the specialist during my pregnancy and this entire journey unraveled. And now I’m sitting here like a boob crying and typing this because holy cow… that pregnancy and all those big things were five years ago. Five years! The good news is that all four of Kinsley’s limbs have minimal involvement compared to most. Her therapist has said that if he can’t get her walking independently then he needs to quit being a physical therapist. If that isn’t hope in the right direction than I don’t know what is. Also, how cute is Miss Kinsley in her braces from thebamboobrace? They help get her arms away from her face and extended in front of her so she can cruise on furniture, reach, and all those good things that help towards walking! 🙌🏻 -
