Take the (grade A 100% pure) train to northern Vermont’s maple paradise 🍁

Welcome to episode 5 of Spontaneous Vermont Day Trips! I’m on a mission to show how easy it is to go outside and have fun. Shelburne is a charming town about 15 minutes south of Burlington. This is one of Vermont’s maple capitals, with 3 sugarhouses and free sugarbushes to explore. Embrace the sugar coma!

🥞 Start at palmersugarhouse for a classic pancake breakfast, sugar on snow, maple donuts, maple lattes, maple hot dogs, maple pulled pork, and many other treats. The Palmer family hosts maple parties with live music every weekend through April!

🌭 Drive down the road to shelburnesugarworks to tour an authentic sugarhouse and enjoy more maple goodies. I’m a big fan of their maple dogs and sugar on snow. Take a leisurely stroll through their 170 acres of free trails and experience a real sugarbush!

🦋 Head towards Lake Champlain to shelburnefarms to eat and walk more. This educational farm has 10 miles of trails, gorgeous historic barns, and the most charming obreadbakery for sweet treats. If the sap’s running, tour the sugarhouse and meet the farmers. Follow their social media for sugar on snow events!

☀️ Finish the day with a long stroll to the Shelburne Farms Inn, a waterfront mansion built in 1888. This is one of my favorite spots for sunset with a sweet treat. The waterfront is about 2.5 miles (out and back) from the parking area and less than 0.5 miles from the sugarhouse. This walk is gorgeous and mostly flat!

There are so many other fun activities in Shelburne. What would you add to this list?
