New England’s free Jurassic Park is waiting to be explored this winter 🦖

The Post Mills Airport is one of Vermont’s most beloved community gems. It was founded way back in 1945 as a “farmer airport” and grew into a full aviation center for sightseeing and forestry patrol. It’s also known for its unique roadside exhibits, thanks to owner Brian Boland.

🦕 Brian became known for his Vermontasaurus, a 120 foot long brontosaurus made of recycled wood (from a collapsed museum). The “Willy Wonka of the Upper Valley” used his imagination to make this shelter for picnickers and landmark for pilots. It quickly turned into a town art project, with over 100 neighbors and students working together to build it. 
 
✨ Brian was an artist, inventor, and collector of antique oddities. His original Museum of Rusty Dusty Stuff turned into this roadside Jurassic Park with a hidden Piano Hut. He amassed so many interesting finds that a grand hall was built at the airport to house his Experimental Balloon & Airship Museum. This is all free to enjoy!

💚 Brian recently passed away in a tragic hot air balloon accident, but his legacy lives on. He graciously donated his airport and museum to the town for public use. His unique collection has become a roadside time capsule and center for imaginative play. 

⭐️ The Post Mills Airport is a public park and all are welcome to visit. Parking is available across the street at the Congregational church. This is a tiny village without cell service or restrooms, so be sure to plan your full adventure ahead of time. It’s also an active airport, so keep an eye out for gliders!
