The world’s quirkiest airport museum is waiting to entertain you ✈️ ✨

The Post Mills Airport is one of Vermont’s most beloved community gems. It was founded way back in 1945 as a “farmer airport” and grew into a full aviation center for sightseeing and forestry patrol. It’s also known for its unique roadside exhibits, thanks to owner Brian Boland.

✨ Brian was an artist, inventor, and collector of antique oddities. He amassed so many interesting finds that a grand hall was built at the airport to house his Experimental Balloon & Airship Museum, in addition to his Museum of Rusty Dusty Stuff. Pilots and glider enthusiasts must’ve loved the free entertainment!

🦖 Brian’s biggest claim to fame was his Vermontasaurus, a giant dinosaur made of scrap wood. This community art project was the reason for my first trek to Post Mills last year (I’ll share a reel soon). Imagine my surprise when I found this humble Piano Hut in the shadow of the huge Dino.

🎹 Schiller pianos were only built from 1890-1936, which makes this piano at least 89 years old. But I couldn’t find any info about this specific piano’s history. It’s a mystery why it’s here or what the significance is. Maybe it was passed down from Brian’s grandparents or donated by a school. If you know, please share!

💚 Brian tragically passed away in a hot air balloon accident, but his legacy lives on. He graciously donated his airport and museum for public use. His unique collection is a roadside time capsule and center for imaginative play. Plus, the airport is still active and it’s soo cool to see gliders!

⭐️ The Post Mills Airport is a public park and all are welcome to explore. Parking is available across the street at the Congregational church. This is a tiny village without cell service or restrooms, so be sure to plan your adventure ahead of time!
