Welcome back to yet another session of: Design School with Professor Quarles 👨🏾‍🏫

For this class, we’re discussing a subject you and I have been anticipating for some time now: Plants! 🪴

Getting our plants bbs ready for the cold months is an important, yet easy task to take on. Here’s what I do to help them thrive through rest!

I. Watering Our Plants Less
• With limited sunlight during the day, our plants just don’t get as thirsty as in the hotter months. So, watering them every 8-10 days helps them maintain balance during their dormant season.

II. Move Our Plants Closer to Light
• Since the cooler months mean days or less sunlight, we need to make sure our plants get the light they need. So after looking around, see what plants you can rearrange to move a little close to the windows in your home.

III. Pest Control
• Although the pests are a touch less active during the winter, this is still a good time for preventative care. To keep the bugs away, I like to spray my soil with neem oil, or for a more pleasant scent, mix 10 drops of peppermint oil with water to mist my plants.

IV. Skip the Fertilizer
• Since these are considered plants’ dormant months, they’re more concerned with rest than growth. There’s time for that in the spring. Skip the fertilizer to put less stress on your plants while they’re taking a breather from a year of abundance.

Extra credit: add in a humidifier to keep the air just like our plants like it, and to help them from drying out due to artificial heat.

Feliz Monday, y’all! And just like our plants this winter, let’s make sure to take time to pause and reflect on just how awesome our story has been this year! There’s more bountiful growth in store 🫶🏾
