I approach design from an emotional and psychological perspective. I look to evoke feelings based on either memories experienced or to be made. Through both rug designs for the Ruggable x Architectural Digest collection, I was able to tap into nostalgia to communicate a future!

With La Joie, I tell a story of ancestral joy experienced through love of nature, music and movement. When I hear my dad play (his guitar) I hear and feel the connection to the joy generations before us got to experience through the joy with which he plays each note today💫

And with Nerissa, I draw from my memory as an exchange student and my mom telling me to look up at the moon when I’m missing her, and know that we were connected still because we were staring at the same celestial body together.

From those two memory experiences, the color, textural and emotional palette for my contributions to the collection were formed! And now, I get to spread a little more colorful whim - from my birth city - into the world, with memories to be made for years to come🪩✨

To create with ruggable and archdigest has been an honor, a dream, and a sign that I’m right where I’m supposed to be. This will stand as the highlight of my career as a designer🥹🙏🏾

And your support has been absolutely beautiful🥹🙈.

Feliz sábado, y’all! Both rugs are now up on the site along with the rest of the BEAUTIFUL collection from THE New American Voices! #davidquarlesiv #choosejoy
