The truck doing it is a 1991 Hilux running Toyota's 2L diesel, under 90 horsepower, with a factory payload rating around 2,000 pounds. The Mitsubishi Pajero strapped across the bed is well past that.

It holds because of the ladder frame. Two steel rails run the length of the truck and take the load straight down into the axle, while the cab just bolts on top.

The reputation is earned. In 2003 Top Gear drowned a Hilux from this era in the Bristol Channel, dropped a caravan on it, set it on fire, and left it on a 23 story building during demolition. It started every time.

Thirty five years old and still the only truck anyone calls.
