An FBI spokesperson confirmed in December 2025 that the SUVs were purchased for Director Kash Patel’s use, departing from the bureau’s long association with Chevrolet Suburbans.

BMW says the factory-armored SUV meets VPAM VR6 standards for ballistic and blast resistance, with steel-reinforced body gaps, 30 mm multilayer safety glass, run-flat tires, a self-sealing fuel tank, and an intercom system. The updated model makes 530 hp, reaches 62 mph in 5.9 seconds, and is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
