Project 941 Akula, known in the West as the Typhoon class, was a Soviet ballistic missile submarine built for Arctic patrols during the late Cold War. At 175 meters long and 48,000 tons submerged, its size came from a specific job: carry 20 nuclear missiles, stay hidden for months, and operate under polar ice.
