The traffic light may become a traffic negotiator 🚦🤖

At intersections with enough autonomous vehicles, a white light would tell human drivers to follow the car ahead while self-driving cars coordinate right-of-way with each other in real time. If human drivers still dominate the road, the signal flips back to the standard red, yellow, and green cycle.

That matters because the logic moves out of a single traffic box and into the vehicles themselves, which makes the system more flexible and less dependent on one central controller. The strongest early use case is freight corridors and ports, where connected trucks can adopt shared rules sooner than everyday commuters.

The bigger shift isn’t the extra color, it’s that streets start responding to live vehicle behavior instead of fixed timers.
