Summertime in Chandler Park: Freedom! The Second Annual Community Arts & Music Festival ☀️🛝🎺

We’ve loved getting to know our Chandler Park neighbors through Detroit Neighborhood Initiative programming❤️

1. In addition to DSO performances, musical experiences include music-making opportunities, with creation & resource centers throughout the park. 16yo Deborah collaborated with audrakubat to write lyrics for a freedom anthem later performed together.
“Freedom is talking to friends for hours
Braiding hair
Under the trees feeling the breeze
Butterflies flying in the rain garden”
2. The audience loved singing & clapping along with the DSO ensemble playing #Motown & #Detroit faves from My Girl and Brick House to The White Stripes
3. Motor City Street Dance Academy got everyone out of their seats
4. Marion Hayden Legacy Jazz Ensemble
5. Repurposing vinyl as a canvas with Live Coal Gallery
6. Instrument fitting with #DetroitHarmony: with thousands of donated instruments on tap, we’re now matching students with instruments & getting them plugged in to education programs!
7. Drumming with btpipes from Heartbeat Detroit
8. Pewabic Street Team pottery demonstrations
9. Residents asked for culturally reflective, healthy food options from local vendors like delish_dish_detroit Attendees registered to receive free lunch from one of the onsite trucks of their choice
