Sugar is sneaky. It's hidden in pretty much everything we consume. It changes our taste buds so that we only like things that are sweet and pushes our brain to want to overeat; it's addictive, messes with our hormones, and reduces our immunity (to name a few).

Which if these foods have sneaked their way into your diet? Did you know that an organic fruit on the bottom yogurt (dairy or non has just as much sugar as a serving of ice cream?) and most of us eat this for breakfast.

I'm not saying that all sugar is bad, but your tolerance of it depends on your body and overall metabolic health. If your overweight, obese, have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, your tolerance is level is low and a high or even moderate sugar load won't do good things for your health.

A few things to be aware of:
1- To figure out how many grams of sugar are in an item, take total grams of Carbohydrate and divide by 4. So take a flavored yogurt that has 40 grams of carbs in a cup. 40/4= 10 teaspoons of sugar.
2- In this picture, I'm showing you just the amount of ADDED sugar in these food items. If you were to take into consideration total carbs (which have a similar impact metabolically as does added sugar) this will show you an even clearer picture as to why these foods aren't ideal for optimal health.
3- It doesn't matter where the sugar comes from, if it's organic, all natural you name it. The body doesn't care; it doesn't care if it comes from organic brown rice syrup, agave nectar, maple syrup, or pomegranate juice. Metabolically it's pretty much all the same.

The average person consumes 66lbs of ADDED sugar per year. This doesn't even factor in naturally occurring sugar, which again impacts the body similarly. For most of us, it's just too much and more than our system can tolerate. While it's okay to treat ourselves once in a while we just need to be aware of what food companies try to pass by us. With that knowledge and an awareness of how all food impacts our metabolic health we can be empowered to make decisions that serve us best!

Hope this helps! Please save and share the word!
