Some stuff is just too much for me to wrap my head around in the moment. The most recent example of this was going to the abandoned Packard Plant and seeing that 90% of it has been turned to dust. For decades this place was a playground for explorers, graffiti artists, photographers, movie productions, the list goes on and on and and on and on. It wasn’t all GOOD, it wasn’t all Bad. It was a dangerous place if your wits weren’t about you, but it somehow offered an escape from the city it was in. It felt like a world of its own the second you got on the other side of the fence or into one of the cold damp entryways. If you went further back in time before any of us, it was a factory that helped mobilize the world through automobiles. To see this multi-acre location reduced to nothing was not on my list of things I thought I’d see in 2024. It’s harder than I thought to part ways with a building that was home to so many of my adventures for ten years. On my last trip I grabbed 3,000 photos in order to more realistically create this place in 3D for my video game/ film. So this isn’t goodbye as you become more intimately attached to locations spending so much time building them in 3D. I can’t really afford to reminisce right now, and I appreciate that my last trip here it felt like the building itself was aware. I say that as it felt like every single time I have ever had while exploring, meaning: I had a difficult climb to get in, I had to hide from security, and the hawk that patrols this area came to check on my drone mid flight. I also left covered in dust and dirt after a 5 hour adventure. I HATE the statement “times change” with almost all my heart, just because it’s so true. The cool thing is if you have enough strength you can choose how you handle the changes and goodbyes. And I will immortalize this version of Packard in my projects, and when I tell the full story. adetroitfilm mybeautifuldangerouslife
