Happy World Porcupine Day! 🦔🌿

Today, we celebrate the South American prehensile-tailed porcupine, a unique and often-overlooked species that plays a critical role in our tropical forests. These arboreal wonders are nature’s pruners, helping shape forest ecosystems by dispersing seeds and maintaining plant diversity. Their presence is a sign of a healthy, thriving forest, but they face growing threats from habitat loss, hunting, and climate change.

That’s why Moody Gardens, an AZA-accredited institution, is committed to conservation, education, and research to protect porcupines and their habitats. Through our Wildlife and Conservation programs, we:
✅ Raise awareness about the importance of porcupines in forest ecosystems.
✅ Support habitat restoration in tropical regions to ensure safe spaces for porcupines to thrive.
✅ Engage in research to better understand their behaviors and challenges.
✅ Inspire action through education, helping communities coexist with wildlife.

This World Porcupine Day, take a moment to appreciate these quill-covered wonders, and learn how you can help protect them! Whether it’s supporting reforestation, reducing deforestation, or spreading awareness, every action counts.
