Let’s Summer Spritz - Part 5: In honor of Juneteenth, I’m sharing this special spritz cocktail - a hibiscus ginger spritz!

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Red drinks hold a significant place in Juneteenth celebrations, symbolizing resilience and remembrance. 🌺 let’s get to this red drink.

Recipe:
- 1 oz vodka
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 1.5 oz hibiscus ginger beer
- 3 oz Prosecco (I used Issa Rae’s viaraewines for this one 🥂)
- Drizzle of hibiscus syrup
- Hibiscus flower (for garnish)
- Ice

Instructions:
1. Fill a glass with ice.
2. Add vodka, lemon juice + simple syrup.
3. Pour in hibiscus ginger beer.
4. Top with prosecco.
5. Drizzle hibiscus syrup over the top and stir.
6. Garnish with a hibiscus flower.

It’s not a coincidence that I used a lot of hibiscus for my red drink. Hibiscus is native to West Africa, and its bright red color and tart flavor have been cherished for centuries by the African Diaspora.

Let’s celebrate and educate this holiday, red drink in hand! Enjoy now and later this summer, and follow for part 6 in my #LetsSummerSpritz series. Cheers! ✨
