We’ve been in our own bubble the past six weeks, and I’m glad my husband was able to take parental leave with me! It’s been a special time. He goes back to work this week, so it’s just me and the little boo a little while longer until I return as well.

Not a new topic but parental leave in this country is a trip. And by trip, I mean a joke. And by joke I mean we’re grateful for the time we’ve had, but it feels like that FMLA time is flying by.

It blows my mind that some countries have a year of leave for moms, fully paid. Similar to the influencer world, paid parental leave is like the Wild West in this country. Maybe you haven’t paid attention much because it hasn’t applied to you, but here’s what some of your peers are up against. Unless you live in one of the 14 states (including DC) that offer paid leave, then it’s really up to the discretion of the employer. If you are a full time entrepreneur/freelancer, this gets even more complicated without preparation.

My husband was able to get his time covered through work, which given my conversation on stories yesterday regarding the public bathroom/changing table discussion varying by gender, feels pretty good as a spouse. But, if he worked for a smaller company, would that be the case? Probably not.

What was your maternity/paternity leave situation?

Do you live in a state where paid leave is a thing — or did you have an employer that took care of you?

Somewhere in the middle?

I’m curious!
