For the past 15 weeks, ITP has wreaked havoc on my life. All the while, I have shown up, created, coached, planned a wedding and tried to make the most of summer. Today I received news that allows me to exhale for a little bit. My platelets are in range for the first time since the beginning of the year, and I can finally get off of Prednisone!

And I say a little bit because we have to allow for time to reveal if a treatment worked. This yo-yo is a lot.

But I’m feeling like there is an upside close by.

I’ve had transfusions (this was in May and that orange liquid is platelets, thank you donors), dozens of blood tests, a round of four infusions of Rituxan, and of course, I had to get COVID in the middle of it for good measure. I’ve gained 20 pounds in this process and the quick gain is felt in my body. My hair is falling out, but thankfully the curls hide it.

There’s a quote that really resonates with me right now by none other than Oprah: “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down."

I am beyond grateful for those who have had my back and shown up for me regardless. I couldn’t get through this without my support system. I’m still getting through it.

Onward - and here we go on this next leg of my ITP journey. If this treatment doesn’t work, I’m going to have a splenectomy. I want to be “normal” again. #itpawareness
