May was the longest month ever. But I’m feeling good mentally and emotionally as it wraps. Almost 💯 physically. I started out terrified after my ITP symptoms began to show themselves again while I was on vacation at the top of the month. The bruise was the size of a tennis ball — out of nowhere.

“Here we go again,” I thought.

Then the petechiae, a few more bruises, and mouth sores.

Back on high dose steroids.
Less sleep. More weight gain. Lost focus.

But I knew better this time. I went in with the energy of doing everything I could, not to feel that way. So, I rested. And I hit it head on when I recouped a bit.

I started drinking more water than I ever have. When I sleep, it is quality. When I’m up, I make the most of it. The ideas have been pouring out of me so I’m documenting them all. I had already cut back on wine + spirits prior to the trip so I could indulge at the resort. I’ve kept it up this month.

I started using my fiveminutejournal every day. The prompts help me stay present, celebrate the small things, and stay in gratitude.

As soon as I wasn’t as weak, lifeofrudytheboston got back on our afternoon walks every day. Moving my body helps me shake out any anxiety, time to bond with my dog, and keep my shape since the steroids made me gain crazy weight last time.

And I had a mini-quarantine. The part that we all wish we had back. The gentleness. The rest. The random bursts of creativity.

I’m saying all of this to say, creating new habits has really changed the game for me. Being present has helped me. Being supported by my love and my friends has kept me encouraged.

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow before starting a new immunotherapy infusion for four weeks. I’m hopeful that this will give me the long term freedom I am seeking. If not, we keep pressing on and go to Plan B. Life is too good not to.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. ❤️ Let’s see what June has in store!!
