Hey Melburnians - did you know that Melbourne is home to Australia's only (and one of a few in the world) LGBTIQ+ community radio station?
Community media is the heartbeat of democracy and inclusion in our world. JOY 94.9 serves over 589,000 listeners every month in Melbourne and even more online across the world!

JOY has been in action for 26 years. We are fuelled by 300 volunteer presenters, producers, key behind-the-scenes doers and a teeny handful of paid staff.
Imagine being 15 years old, feeling you are different and not accepted, alone in your bedroom at night. Similarly 60 years old recently realising you are actually gay, or a transgender or intersex person finding your identity for the first time.  JOY is that voice and friend that makes you realise who you are is okay and you’re not alone. We also bring comfort and knowledge to the families and friends of our community knowing their loved ones are supported.

JOY takes our mission to create a more inclusive Australia seriously.  Either giving a voice to topical issues such as marriage equality, emotional health and wellbeing, social inclusion or stories from people where their lifestyle puts them at risk of execution, JOY not only connects people, but also helps to create lasting social change.

Our community has nurtured JOY for so many years, and we are so grateful.  They are the reason we exist, but it’s time for us to become more self-sufficient.  We are creating a new arm of JOY that will provide products and services to help build a more inclusive Australia, while keeping JOY 94.9 alive and thriving into the future.
We are now stepping beyond the LGBTIQ family to our friends in the broader Australian community to help make this happen. We are asking everyone to choose JOY by donating to our Chuffed campaign Build JOY Nation today to raise $250,000.  #helpsavejoy

Support Australia’s only LGBTIQ+ radio station, and help us make Australia a more inclusive place to live!
