## Caption

This church seems to appear and disappear as you move around it. Reading Between the Lines is a permanent artwork by the Belgian duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, installed near Borgloon in 2011. Horizontal steel layers trace the familiar shape of a local church, with roughly 2,000 small supporting columns keeping the layers apart. From one angle, the structure looks almost solid. From another, the landscape passes straight through its walls. The changing view is the point. The work has no specific religious function, and invites visitors to look at the architecture and its surroundings together.
