📍 Rainbow Mountain - What you need to know ⬇️

🌈 This insta-famous spot has gained a ton of popularity in recent years. And, it’s located just a few hours from Cusco, Peru!
•
We really debated if it was worth visiting, and decided to go on our last day in Peru. 
•
First, What you NEED to know ⬇️
•
🏔️ELEVATION - Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicunca, sits at 16,500 feet 😮 (the highest mountain in the continguous US is 14,500). You can get sick or dizzy, quickly. Acclimate prior by exploring Cusco (at 11,000 elevation), and surrounding areas first! We overhead some say it was there first day in Peru, and appeared to be really struggling 😣. 
•
❄️ WEATHER - Check the conditions prior! By late May the snow had melted, but just a week prior, the 🌈 colors were covered in snow!
•
🙏 This is a sacred area and it’s essential we respect the land and local communities by staying on the trail and packing out trash. 
•
So… Did we Think it was worth it?? 

Our honest opinion 👇
•
🤔 Personally, unless your day tour departs Cusco by 3:30–4am, we don’t think it’s worth it. The crowds are INSANE. We went with salkantaytrekking because they depart at 4am— and before the crowds, the mountain was incredible to witness! 🤩 We only found one other tour company that departed by this time. 
•
We thought it was worth the trip IF:
•
👍 Your day tour leaves between 3:30-4am. 
•
👍 You take a longer multi-day trek 🥾. Along the way, Experience the surrounding sites and explore at your leisure. We want to return to do the Ausangate Trek! 
•
👍 Stay overnight in a nearby town, such as Pitumarca. Hire a local guide, and taxi. 
•
It’s a tough call because the rainbow mountain, and surrounding snowy peaks, truly are spectacular to experience! 
•
